Psalm 22:1
My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me? Why are You so far from helping Me, And from the words of My groaning?
This prophecy was fulfilled in Matthew 27:46 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?” that is, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” I have titled this write-up the Silence of God. Jesus got to a point where He called on His Father and He did not get any response. Nevertheless, He still went ahead to commit His spirit into the Hands of the Lord.
In Luke 23:46 And when Jesus had cried out with a loud voice, He said, “Father, ‘into Your hands, I commit My spirit.’ ” Having said this, He breathed His last. Jesus exhibited one of the highest levels of faith by committing His spirit to a sovereign God who did not respond to Him a few minutes ago. The Bible says without faith we cannot please God and I believe that when God is silent, He gives us an opportunity to please Him. Jesus knew by scripture His Father won’t leave Him in Hell so He comfortably left His spirit in the Hands of the Father.
Psalm 16:10 For You will not leave my soul in Sheol, Nor will You allow Your Holy One to see corruption.
Jesus got the highest honour after He pleased God on the cross. He got a name above every other name and He is seated at the right hand of God Almighty. Anytime we go to God with a request and His silence. What do we do? Do we trust He is ready to fulfil that which He has spoken to us of? God gives us a platform by His Silence for us to please Him by being patient for His word to be made flesh in our lives. He gives us also room to take the next step by Committing that request into His hands knowing He is faithful and He will answer that request in His own time. Without Faith, we cannot please Him.
There are times we go to Him for an enquiry about a decision and He is silent. We should ask for Grace to discern the will of God especially when He is silent. When Jesus prayed in the garden of Gethsemane. In Matthew 26:39 He went a little farther and fell on His face, and prayed, saying, “O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will.” The Bible did not record a response from God and in Luke’s ( Luke 22:43-44) account an angel came to strengthen Jesus after that prayer. Jesus sought the Will of God after the silence. May God strengthen us to make decisions that will please Him especially when He is silent.
We have petitioned the Master for many things but He is using His silence to give us an opportunity for us to please Him by seeking His will, not ours. Anytime we do not Hear from Him in regards to an inquiry, let us quickly ask for what His will is so we can please Him.
