Prayer is communication with God. Prayer is speaking to your Father the Creator of the Universe. Prayer can change the situation you are currently in and prayer can move mountains. Many of the people in the bible prayed and situations changed in their favour. For instance, Isaac married and the bible says his wife was barren. He knew the God he served so he sought the Lord in prayer and she became pregnant. Genesis 25:21 NIV 21 Isaac prayed to the Lord on behalf of his wife, because she was childless. The Lord answered his prayer and his wife Rebekah became pregnant. No matter how bad you think your situation is, once you engage God in prayers you will receive answers.
Jesus prayed for a dead man named Lazarus and he rose up from the grave. In John 11:41- 44 NKJV 41 Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead man was lying. And Jesus lifted up His eyes and said, “Father, I thank You that You have heard Me. 42 And I know that You always hear Me, but because of the people who are standing by I said this, that they may believe that You sent Me.” 43 Now when He had said these things, He cried with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come forth!” 44 And he who had died came out bound hand and foot with graveclothes, and his face was wrapped with a cloth. Jesus said to them, “Lose him, and let him go.” No matter how serious your situation is, by praying to God The Father through Jesus, He will answer you. Lazarus was dead but once prayer went up to the heavens God answered because we serve a prayer answering God. Psalm 65:2 O You who hear prayer, To You all flesh will come.
God hears our prayers so let us keep praying for the changes we want to see in life. Do not relent in the prayer closet. Keep praying and things will change for your good. The Bible says in James 5:17-18 17 Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three years and six months. 18 And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth produced its fruit. The key word here is he prayed earnestly which in the Oxford dictionary means in a very serious and sincere way. We have to take prayers seriously for answers to begin to come down. How can a man like ourselves pray for it not to rain? It is possible because the bible says so in Matthew 19:26 But Jesus looked at them and said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
You can also pray for the ulcer to leave your body, pray for God to give you a husband or wife, pray for the new job you want; or pray for God to give you spiritual giftings.
There are times we lose steam in prayers because we do not see answers coming down. Do not forget that the bible says 1 Thessalonians 5:17 tells us to Pray without ceasing. It means keep praying till answers come. Keep asking till answers come down from heaven. In Matthew 7-11 The bible says 7 “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. 9 Or what man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent? 11 If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him! The Bible has given us permission to keep asking. I pray God gives you the grace to keep praying without ceasing.
Think of prayer as spending time with your father. Speak to Him, thank Him and adore Him. Do not think of prayer as a thing to do but instead as spending time with your Father the Good Shepherd. The disciples knew the importance of prayer so when they walked with Jesus in Luke 11 they asked him to teach them how to pray. Luke 11:1 Now it came to pass, as He was praying in a certain place, when He ceased, that one of His disciples said to Him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.” Prayer has a format. Jesus said we should pray in this manner 9 In this manner, therefore, pray:
Our Father in Heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
10 Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts,
As we forgive our debtors.
13 And do not lead us into temptation,
But deliver us from the evil one.
[d]For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
