The name Jesus means to deliver or to rescue and today I want to tell you why you need Him. Today we live in a world where sin has become the norm. The world has normalised what the Bible condemns and to a large extent, now glorifies our sinful ways, for example, having a child before marriage, polyamory, fornication, lust, adultery, abortion, same-sex relationships etc, however, the Bible states that the wages of sin is death (Romans 8:23 – “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord”).
Jesus came purposely to deliver and save the world from sin. The Bible says in Matthew 1: 21, “And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.” Your question may be, why do you need saving from sin because it is your personal choice to fornicate, masturbate, smoke and live your life as you deem fit. I want to highlight the effects of such choices, especially on your own life. When you drink alcohol you will eventually develop cirrhosis of the liver which can kill you; smoking decreases your life expectancy and having multiple sex partners increases your chances of getting sexually transmitted diseases also, when you cheat on your partner you hurt them emotionally. Once you do these things and their repercussions come into play in your life, it only does not affect your life but the lives of your family and close friends. A lot of these sins are very addictive and become a part of your life, and even when you want to stop, it becomes almost impossible. These are the natural or physical repercussions of some of the above sinful deeds. Now the question is what happens one day when you are dead and gone?
You will be judged according to the life you lived here on the earth and when your name is not found in the Book of life, you will spend eternity in hell. That is why it is so important that you live a godly life as prescribed in the Bible.
For this reason, you need Jesus to save you from your sins. What Jesus does is that he takes away that sin that should have killed you and replaces it with Eternal life. In John chapter 8, a woman was caught in adultery and the law states that she had to be stoned to death. When she came in contact with Jesus, Jesus delivered her from death and gave her life. This is what Jesus does; He takes away the sin and gives you life. He also empowers you not to sin again with the help of the Holy Spirit which lives within you.
If you have issues with addiction, once you confess your sins to Jesus, and accept Him as your Lord and Saviour He will give you the strength you need to fight that addiction. Philippians 4:13 – I can do all things through [a]Christ who strengthens me. Jesus is ready to take away sin, the guilt of it and replace it with eternal life.
Mark Chapter 5:25 talks about a woman with the issue of blood who had suffered many things from many physicians and her situation only grew worse. One day, she came into contact with Jesus and was healed of her disease. A lot of us are going through a lot of pain from the loss of a loved one, disease, betrayal and heartbreak.
Another reason why we need Jesus is that He takes away the pain and heals us of our diseases. Jesus is the master of taking away pain and healing the sick. The Bible has many stories of people who came into contact with Jesus and were healed. Bartimaeus was blind and when he came to Jesus his sight was restored. There was a man who was crippled for more than 38 years. He was delivered from that infirmity after he came into contact with Jesus in John chapter 5. We need Jesus to bring an end to the pain and suffering in our lives. There are issues that you know that science cannot solve and you have tried many things and it is not working. Take it to Jesus and you will see the manifestation of His power.
You also need Jesus in order to fulfil your purpose in life. A lot of us have been struggling with what we will become in life and what the future holds for us. We have tried many businesses, and startups and have failed. People have cheated us, we have lost investment and are not happy with our day jobs. Until you meet Jesus, you will not be able to know what your assignment is in life. It is very important that we get to know Jesus and once we get close to Him, we will be able to understand God’s plan for our life. There was a fisherman called Peter, one day He came into contact with Jesus and Jesus told him that his life’s assignment was to become a fisher of men (an apostle). He would have missed his assignment if he did not come into contact with Jesus.
In John Chapter 4, Jesus encountered a Samaritan woman at a well and through that encounter she found her calling, which was, to evangelise (John 4: 39 – “And many of the Samaritans of that city believed in Him because of the word of the woman who testified, “He told me all that I ever did”). An encounter with Jesus will give you insight into what you are supposed to do in life and the details of your Ministry.
I pray that as you read this article, God will give you an encounter for you to get details of your destiny assignment.
